Badge of Honour

The university experience goes beyond attending classes and passing exams. Being part of university life means engaging with ideas, people and experiences that foster personal as well as academic growth. It is from this vision that Badge of Honour was created: an initiative through which IULM recognises and promotes students' participation in the cultural life of the University.

Alongside the academic activities offered within its degree programmes, IULM organises conferences, seminars, workshops, festivals, short courses and other initiatives designed to explore key topics in communication and broaden the knowledge acquired throughout students' academic journey. Activities recognised under the programme are identified by the Badge of Honour logo and contribute to enriching students' academic profile.

The programme includes both University-wide initiatives, open to all students, and Faculty-specific initiatives, reserved for students enrolled in the relevant Faculty. Depending on their duration or the level of commitment required, some initiatives may be worth more than one Honour activity.

Students who complete the minimum number of activities established by the Badge of Honour Regulations are eligible to receive one Badge of Honour point as part of the curriculum-based points awarded when determining the final degree mark. From the graduation sessions of the 2026/27 academic year, students must complete at least 12 activities for Bachelor's degree programmes and 8 activities for Master's degree programmes. Until the third graduation session of the 2025/26 academic year, the previous requirements (6 and 4 activities respectively) will continue to apply. Activities are counted exclusively within the same study cycle.

Participation in Badge of Honour events and attendance registration are managed exclusively through the IULM Lezioni app, according to the procedures specified for each individual initiative

  • TOP Tutoring: become a tutor to assist middle school students with their studies. This activity, carefully monitored and well documented, is one of those that awards the full Badge of Honour point (following the delivery of the participation certificate by the volunteer students)..

  • Sognielettrici Festival 2024: Participation by students in at least 6 events of their choice (including screenings, meetings, and the conference) over the 6 days of the festival, or participation as volunteers in organizing the festival, will count toward the completion of 1 of the 4 (for master’s degrees) or 6 (for bachelor’s degrees) activities required to earn the Badge of Honour.

  • Training Translators and Interpreters Today: Perspectives and Evolutions: this activity is aimed at students enrolled in degree courses in the Faculty of Interpreting and Translation. In order to complete the honour activity, it is necessary to participate in 2 half-days out of the 4 planned, at your own choice. Below is the structure of each of the 4 half days:

    1. 2 December morning: Keynote speech 1 + Session 1 + Session 2

    2. 2 December afternoon: Keynote speech 2 + Session 3 + Session 4

    3. 3 December morning: Keynote speech 3 + Session 5 + Session 6 + Keynote speech 4

    4. 3 December afternoon: Keynote speech 5 + Session 7 + Session 8

    For the Degree Courses of the Faculty of Interpreting and Translation, participation in at least 2 half-days will correspond to the completion of 1 of the 4 (Master's Degrees) or 6 (Bachelor's Degrees) activities for the purposes of obtaining the Badge of Honour. Attendance will be recorded via the IULM Lezioni app.

  • The Noir in Festival 2024: the participation of students from all Degree Courses in at least 5 meetings/projections during the days of the festival will correspond to the completion of 1 of the 4 or 6 activities (the former for Master's degrees, the latter for Bachelor's degrees), for the purposes of obtaining the Badge of Honour.

  • Debate Club: the participation of students from all Bachelor and Master's degree courses will correspond to the completion of 1 of the 4 or 6 activities (the former for Master's degrees, the latter for Bachelor's degrees), for the purpose of obtaining the Badge of Honour.

  • Honorary Master's Degree awarding ceremony to Vincent Lindon is part of the Badge of Honour activities initiative for all Bachelor and Master degree students and corresponds to the completion of 1 of the 4 activities (for students enrolled in Master degree courses) and 1 of the 6 activities (for students enrolled in Bachelor degree courses) required to obtain the Badge of Honour point.

  • Alessandro D'Avenia at IULM for the lecture series Le strategie della parola: Participation in all meetings is equivalent to the completion of 1 out of 4 required activities (for students enrolled in master's degree programs) and 1 out of 6 required activities (for students enrolled in bachelor's degree programs) necessary to obtain the Badge of Honour point. Punctuality is strongly recommended.

  • Practical seminars on International Sales & Marketing Management held by IULM lecturer Andrea Monti. The seminars, open to all IULM students and recognised as an honour activity for the purposes of the Badge of Honour, are designed to offer students a practical and concrete approach to the world of international sales and marketing, with the analysis of real cases and operational strategies. *Seminar places are sold out

  • Sensi del Giallo: Il Corpo del Reato tra Inganno ed Evidenza: La partecipazione ai tre incontri "Il fumetto giallo. Serialità, autorialità, intermedialità", "La "Milano nera" da Scerbanenco a Bacilieri" e "La parola ai sensi. La trama sensibile del romanzo giallo", corrisponde al completamento di 1 delle 4 attività (per gli studenti iscritti ai corsi di laurea magistrale) e a 1 delle 6 attività (per gli studenti iscritti ai corsi di laurea triennale) necessarie al conseguimento del punto badge of honour.

  • Senses of "Giallo": The Body of Evidence between Deception and Truth: Attending the three talks "Crime Comics. Seriality, Authorship, Intermediality," "Dark Milan from Scerbanenco to Bacilieri," and "The Role of the Senses. The Sensory Plot of Crime Fiction" counts as completing 1 out of 4 required activities (for Master’s students) and 1 out of 6 required activities (for Bachelor’s students) necessary to earn a Badge of Honour credit.

The University Workshops offer students a specialized and dynamic learning opportunity through lectures held by professionals and researchers. Participation is open to all IULM students and grants an honour activity.

Attendance at all sessions is mandatory and grants one of the six honour activities required for bachelor's degrees or one of the four required for master’s degrees. One justified absence is allowed.




  • Micro-course entitled CLIP - Critical Visual Literacy and Fluency (Coordinators: Andrea Miconi and Simona
    Pezzano), for the benefit of students in the Bachelor's degree programs of the Faculty of Communication who have
    participated in at least 2 out of 4 didactic modules, answered the multiple-choice questions provided and completed
    the proposed activities;
  • Festival Sognielettrici 2023, for students from all Faculties who will participate in at least 6 meetings of their choice over the 6 days of the event and students who will be involved in voluntary support activities.
  • Conference Marguerite Yourcenar between the construction of the work and the truth of art. The participation of students, who have chosen French as a second language in either the Bachelor's Degree Course ("Languages, Culture and Digital Communication" or "Interpreting and Communication") or in the Faculty's Master's Degree Course, in at least four of the six scheduled sessions, will count as Badge of Honour.
  • Screening of the film Si può fare on the occasion of International Mental Health Day, 11 October 2023 from 6 p.m. in the Auditorium.
  • Course on "Publishing Professions for Translators", organised by the International Centre of Research on Collaborative Translation, aimed at both IULM students of the Master's Degree in Specialised Translation and Conference Interpreting and those of the two Bachelor's Degrees activated at the Faculty of Interpreting and Translation. The course is also open to students of SSML Carlo Bo or of other universities (enrolled in the last year of the bachelor's degree) interested in future enrolment in the LM 94 at IULM.
  • Noir in Festival 2023, the XXXIII edition of the Festival will be back again this year at IULM with numerous meetings, screenings and masterclasses. Students' participation in at least five meetings during the days of the festival will correspond to the completion of 1 of the 4 or 6 activities (the former for Master's degrees, the latter for Bachelor's degrees), for the purposes of obtaining the Badge of Honour.
  • "International Week 2004", the 4th edition of the International Week: students who attend 4 different lectures will receive a certificate of attendance valid for the Badge of Honour

  • La vita che volevi: presentation of the new Netflix series in IULM
    On June 3, at 5 p.m., Sala dei 146 will host the presentation of the new Netflix TV series “La vita che volevi” in the presence of creator, screenwriter and director Ivan Cotroneo and lead actress Vittoria Schisano. Professors Daniela Cardini and Fabio Vittorini will moderate. Participation in this event and two other initiatives to be announced later will be valid for obtaining the Badge of Honour for students of the Master's Degree in “Television, Cinema and New Media.”

  • Masterclass “Theory and practice of retranslation: rereading, reinterpreting.
    Lecturer: Prof. Enrico Monti (Université Mulhouse, France) - June 14, 2024 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m., room 662 IULM 6.
    Why do we relentlessly retranslate the same texts? This Master Class aims to analyze the reasons and modalities of a practice that is as constant as it is fundamentally redundant, not to say illogical, if one thinks of translation as a way to access a work in another language. Yet examples are everywhere and in every age, testifying to an across-the-board impulse to reread, reinterpret, and recreate literary works. To better understand and test some of the hypotheses that have emerged in studies in this area, a number of translation series will be analyzed during the meeting, in search of ways and reasons for retranslating. This event is intended for all students in the 1st and 2nd years of the Master's degree program in Specialist Translation and Conference Interpreting; participation in the event will correspond to the completion of 1 of the 4 activities required for the achievement of the badge of honor point.
