News - 06 September 2024

IULM University, in collaboration with the IULM AI Lab and the Neural Network Association, presents the first Italian Festival dedicated to Cinema and Artificial Intelligence.

The film competition is dedicated to short films, video clips and commercials created with Artificial Intelligence, with a section dedicated to AI-based digital characters and hyper-realistic avatars

The awards ceremony will take place on October 12 and 13, 2024, at IULM University in Milan, as part of Milano Digital Week, the annual event that provides an ideal context for discussing and demonstrating the continuing evolution of artificial intelligence in the audiovisual industry.

Program

Saturday, October 12

The first day of the festival will be opened by a workshop dedicated to the study of new forms of filmmaking with artificial intelligence, a unique opportunity to explore the techniques and possibilities offered by AI to shape one's own cinematic aesthetic. Participants will have the opportunity to talk directly with an expert in the field and learn how to use some of the most important generative algorithms.

In the afternoon, the focus will shift to copyright in the age of AI, with an in-depth discussion aimed at exploring what legal challenges artificial intelligence poses and how the European Union is adapting to the diffusion of this new technology. This will be followed by a talk devoted to the complex relationship between synthetic media and fake news that will explore how AI can be used to create and disseminate fake media.

The program goes on with a series of screenings of the competition dedicated to films, video clips and commercials created using generative algorithms, so as to offer an overview of innovations and new possibilities in the field of film production. At last, a live music event is planned, where artificial intelligence will merge with human performances, offering a unique show for music and technology lovers.

In parallel, there will be an opportunity to visit exhibitions in the festival spaces dedicated to new images produced through artificial intelligence.

In the first half of the afternoon, there will be a meeting dedicated to analyzing the impact artificial intelligence is having on the film industry, trying to understand how it can be introduced within the production and distribution chain of a film. Next, a meeting dedicated to the new frontiers opened to filmmakers by text-to-image and text-to-video algorithms, with an open eye in particular on Italian cinema.

The day continues with a second screening session of the competition dedicated to short film forms made with the help of artificial intelligence.
