Noir in Festival 2024

Cinema - 14 November 2024

Noir in Festival: the first previews of a program full of film premieres and literary meetings. In addition to a space dedicated to comics, a focus on the world of Podcasts is planned.

Rapper Salmo as a film creator and actor and the five champions of literary noir, finalists of the Giorgio Scerbanenco Prize, are the protagonists of the first day of Noir in Festival 2024, which will be held in Milan from December 2 to 7, 2024.

Gangs of Milano, the new Sky-branded series curated by Salmo, premieres on the Noir stage after the success of Block 181. It is the opening title of the international selection that this year features eight national premieres for the Black Panther Award. There are a total of thirteen appointments at Cinema Arlecchino (in collaboration with Cineteca Italiana Milano) joined - at IULM University - by the six feature film finalists for the Claudio Caligari Award.

The names of the five finalists of the Giorgio Scerbanenco Award, who will meet the public on December 2 at Casa Manzoni, will be revealed on November 25 after the first phase of the popular vote that, with the support of the City of Lignano Sabbiadoro, also decides the Readers' Award.

Many unmissable events, including cinema, literature and new media, in this edition of the festival directed by Giorgio Gosetti and Marina Fabbri. The entire program will be announced at a press conference scheduled for November 25 at the Milan City Hall in Palazzo Marino. In the meantime, we know that Joyce Carol Oates will be the brightest star: the great American writer, recipient of the Raymond Chandler Award, will meet the public on the evening of December 5 at the Franco Parenti Theater during an event realized in collaboration with La Milanesiana conceived and directed by Elisabetta Sgarbi.

This year Noir in Festival expands its program with two events dedicated to the world of podcasts. The protagonist of the first meeting, at the IULM University, is journalist and author Pablo Trincia, who will talk about his podcast E poi il silenzio - Il disastro di Rigopiano, an original production by Sky Italia and Sky TG24 made by Chora Media.
Trincia will talk about the genesis and development of the podcast that reconstructs, through unpublished testimonies, the drama and human stories behind the tragedy of Hotel Rigopiano, swept away by an avalanche in 2017. Along with the author will be Debora Campanella, co-author of the podcast, and Omar Schillaci, deputy director of Sky Tg 24, which will broadcast the five-part series of the same name from November 20.

The protagonist of the second appointment will be Gabriella Simoni, journalist, correspondent (she has covered the wars in Iraq, Somalia, Egypt, Afghanistan and Ukraine and numerous crime stories) and, in this case, author of the podcast produced by Chora Media, Those Bad Boys, the story of the Milanese community Kayros and, precisely, of those "bad boys" who live there. Boys who have a whole future to write, all the possibilities to do so and also all the risk of wasting it.

Finally, comics, increasingly the protagonist at the Noir in Festival. The "ninth art" is told in three appointments during the week of Noir at IULM, and will also be the protagonist of a contest, a spin off of the successful ShorTS Comics Marathon, promoted by the Trieste-based ShorTS International Film Festival. With eight editions under its belt, the Marathon challenges participating cartoonists and illustrators to rewrite and redraw films from film history in a "short comic book" format. The Marathon's spin off to Noir in Milan will be even tighter: compressing a film of your choice, strictly from the noir genre, into a single comic book board. The mode, style, and size of the vignettes will be totally free, to give maximum flair to the creativity of the participants.
Entries via DM message to the instagram profile shortscomicsmarathon headquarters. Deadline for submission of works: December 1.
Three awardees of the past editions of the main Marathon, Pietro Salateo (winner of the 5th edition), Nico Mancini (Triumphant of the 7th) and Chiara Onofri (first place last July) will choose the winning board. The award ceremony will take place during a meeting with illustrator Lorenzo Palloni at IULM on December 5.
