Students learn how contemporary communication channels and platforms operate, with particular attention to cinema, radio, television, journalism and theatre, as well as the digital world of social media and artificial intelligence. The programme’s courses focus on:
- Content creation and distribution, which require strong language and storytelling skills, together with a high level of creativity. Examples include courses in advertising creativity, creative writing and digital communication;
- The analysis of emerging trends on digital platforms and the ways in which audiences engage with content, for instance through virtual and augmented reality. This area includes courses in media sociology, psychology, information systems and digital trends;
- Soft skills, aimed at training professionals who can organise, understand, analyse and solve problems within the creative industries. To this end, the programme develops critical thinking and a strong sense of initiative.
The programme’s theoretical and critical courses are complemented by an extensive programme of workshop activities, closely aligned with the ongoing evolution of the job market and professional practices. The learning pathway is dynamic and stimulating, designed to foster open-mindedness. Creative intelligence, an increasingly sought-after quality in the media, performing arts and digital communication sectors, is actively encouraged. Teaching takes place in a variety of settings, including the Radio IULM studios, the audiovisual production facilities of IULM Studios, and the University Theatre Centre within the campus. Over the years, workshop activities have also extended beyond the IULM campus, with students gaining experience at major events such as the Venice Film Festival and the Sanremo Music Festival, among others.
The main objective of the Communication, Media and Advertising programme (Degree Class: Communication Sciences) is to prepare graduates with a solid background in communication through contemporary media.
The programme focuses on the study of cinema, theatre, music, television and advertising, and the historical, aesthetic, legal, linguistic and semiotic contexts of reference are conveyed through a contemporary socio-economic perspective with a focus on the digital media scenario.
In addition, knowledge of the structure of media languages, combined with in-depth preparation in English and intermediate preparation in a second foreign language, will allow graduates to develop a thorough ability to analyze international communication contexts.
