Tomasi di Lampedusa and cinema
As part of BookCity, the presentation of the volume Il principe fulvo is an opportunity to trace the relationship between the writer and the seventh art
Thursday, November 14, IULM will host the presentation of the new edition of Salvatore Silvano Nigro's volume Il principe fulvo (Sellerio, 2024), in its author's words the "tale of a novel" centered on Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. The book is the result of a series of seminars given by Professor Nigro at various prestigious universities, from Harvard to Yale University, from École Normale Supérieure in Paris to that of Pisa. The author has chosen to analyze the Sicilian writer's masterpiece, The Leopard, interpreting it not only from a historical point of view but also as a fantastic allegory. In fact, Nigro writes about the novel's protagonist, "The Prince of Salina inhabits Baroque and Rococo dwellings still frequented, on the historiated vaults and on the majolica tiles of the floors, by the familiar divinities of Olympus and the congenial fables of ancient heroes."
The fruitful relationship between Tomasi di Lampedusa and cinema, which reached its highest point in the transposition of The Leopard by a cultured and refined director like Luchino Visconti, in the 1963 film of the same name starring Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon, will be the subject of a dialogue between Nigro himself, Professor Gianni Canova and Salvatore Carrubba.
The book presentation, part of the BookCity Milano events held at our University, will take place on Thursday, November 14 at 4:30 p.m. in Sala dei 146 (IULM 6).
