The lyric writer. Songs or poetry for music
October 28 and 29 in IULM the international conference
On October 28, following the conferral of the Honorary Master's Degree in "Publishing and Music Production" to Mogol, a two-day international conference entitled The lyric writer. Songs or poetry for music will kick off, organized by IULM lecturer Luca Cerchiari, Director of the IULM Master's Degree in "Publishing and Music Production."
The conference that will follow the ceremony will provide an important opportunity to reflect on the figure of the lyricist and the relationship between song and poetry. It will explore the borderline between verses conceived for the song-form and those conceived as poetry for music, questioning how these two spheres differ on an expressive and theoretical level. Mogol, with his extraordinary contribution to Italian song, is a perfect example to start an international reflection on this creative figure, often neglected from an academic point of view.
Participating in the conference will be Italian, European and American scholars, experts in areas ranging from musicals to theater, from literature to jazz and pop music. The meeting will be an opportunity to analyze some of the key figures of the twentieth century and the intersections between popular music, musical comedy, contemporary experimental genres, and the mutual influences between jazz and song, offering new insights into a topic little explored in musicological and literary literature.
