IULM Jazz
From October 19 to 22, IULM is dedicating a week to jazz music, with three events that blend live performances, storytelling, experimentation, and outreach to the city.
Kicking off the program on Monday, October 19, will be the Bandakadabra marching band, which will take center stage on campus in a series of performances organized in collaboration with Blue Note Milano as part of the Blue Note Off project.
On Wednesday, October 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Coworking space will host the lecture-concert “Jazz. A Story in Black and White,” a journey through the history of African American music that alternates between storytelling, listening, and live performances. Twelve key moments in the evolution of jazz will be explored through iconic songs, images, historical documents, and testimonies from its key figures.
The week will culminate on Thursday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m. with the arrival at IULM of the Grandbrothers, the headliners of the IULM for JAZZMI.
The duo, consisting of Erol Sarp and Lukas Vogel, has developed an original musical language based on a single sound source: the grand piano. Thanks to specially developed pickups and electromechanical devices, the Grandbrothers expand the instrument’s sonic possibilities, moving between minimalism, jazz, electronic music, and acoustic techno.
The event also marks IULM’s participation in JAZZMI, the citywide festival that brings jazz music to theaters, clubs, and cultural venues throughout Milan.
Three days and three different ways to experience jazz: from live performances to exploring its history, all the way to the experiments of the contemporary scene.
