Jazz: A Story in Black and White—A Lecture-Concert at IULM on October 21
A journey through the history of African American music with the Minimax Jazz Ensemble, featuring storytelling, music, images, and archival materials.
On Wednesday, October 21, at 5:00 p.m., the coworking spacein the IULM 7 building will host “Jazz: A Story in Black and White,” a lecture-concert dedicated to the history and evolution of African American music.
The project, conceived and presented by Massimo Bustreo, an IULM professor and pianist, was created with the goal of spreading knowledge and a passion for jazz through a unique blend of storytelling and live music. This journey, spanning from the genre’s origins to the present day, traces the major eras of African American music, focusing on the key figures and songs that have shaped its history.
Guiding the audience through this journey will be the Minimax Jazz Ensemble, which will accompany the narration with performances of some of the most significant pieces from the jazz repertoire. On stage, alongside Massimo Bustreo, will be Michele Dal Don on tenor saxophone and vocals, Alvise Seggi on double bass and electric bass, and Marco Carlesso on rubboard, washboard, and drums.
The music will be accompanied by a projection of photographs, portraits of key figures, and documents related to the various eras of jazz, creating an immersive experience that brings to life the cultural and artistic context in which this musical genre developed.
Launched in 2003, “Jazz: A Story in Black and White” offers an original way to explore the history of jazz, combining educational content, musical performances, and audiovisual materials.
Admission is free while seats last.
