The green gaze: the IULM short film marathon presented at Monte Rosa Light Park 91

Cinema - 27 September 2024 - Event date 26 October 2024

An evening of film works made by IULM students, featuring new stories and perspectives from the future. Appointment Saturday, October 26 from 7:00 p.m. in the fascinating setting of the Parco della Luce at Monte Rosa 91.

Cinema as an activator of imagination and a willingness to look at the world through today's eyes: this is the theme of "The Green Look - The Long Night of IULM Shorts," an evening dedicated to film works made by IULM students, which will be hosted in Monte Rosa 91, the building designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, on Saturday, October 26 from 7:00 p.m. The absolute protagonists will be two unreleased short films The Drowned and Il mare breve, inspired by the word of the year "Adventure" and shot in evocative locations such as Hong Kong and the Faroe Islands. This will be followed by the screening of a selection of short films made by young graduates of IULM's Master's Degree in Television, Cinema and New Media, which have already been successful in various national and international festivals in recent years.

The marathon of short films will be part of the program Shining Green, 2024-2025 season of events within the Parco della Luce program schedule, which for the second consecutive year brings culture to Monte Rosa 91, opening its doors to the citizens of Milan. For an entire evening, the Monte Rosa 91 Auditorium will be transformed into an open cinema, where anyone can freely enter and leave, while the screen will feature two unreleased short films premiering for the Milanese community, along with films that have already been screened at festivals and reviews, both national and international.

The Green Look reveals cinema to us as a continuous exercise of the imagination, a constant training with stories and visions that defy time. It will not only be an entertainment marathon, but also an opportunity to share the creative journeys of the students of the Master's Degree in Television, Cinema and New Media. From the remote Faroe Islands, with the short film Il mare breve, about Europe's most isolated lighthouse, to the crowded streets of Hong Kong for an adaptation of The Adventure of a Photographer by Italo Calvino ('The Drowned'), these films will be accompanied by short presentations by the authors. Each screening will bring with it the energy and vitality of unique and ever-evolving stories.

"There is a trace of the future that begins with the gaze. It doesn't matter what it focuses on and where exactly it goes: what matters is that it never stops cultivating distance," comments Prof. Gianni Canova, Rector of IULM University. "Along the affabulatory setting of the Parco della Luce, the very light of the projection of the IULM University shorts has the consistent role of going to show what are glimpses of new narratives, of new ways of seeing, of perspectives to be discovered."

"I am very happy to host in this year's schedule a review of short films signed by young Iulm students," comments Gaia Manzini, artistic director of Parco della Luce. "It is always a privilege for me to deal with the attentive gaze of those who feel the urgency of the world and return it to us through a short format that, by its nature, enjoys a greater symbolic power capable of seducing and guiding us. The title "The Green Gaze" underscores the ability of cinema to show us reality from unprecedented points of view, which we hope will sprout brilliantly in the future."
