Culture - 01 December 2025 - Event date 04 December 2025

On December 4, the British author meets students and fans for a masterclass on contemporary noir

On December 4 at 11:00 AM, IULM’s Auditorium (IULM 6) will host the presentation of the Raymond Chandler Award 2025 to British author Mick Herron, creator of the acclaimed spy saga that inspired the TV series Slow Horses. The awarding is part of the programme of the Noir in Festival.

Following the award ceremony — which includes the presentation of the silver replica of the legendary “Brasher Doubloon” — Herron will lead a masterclass, introduced by Pro-rector Fabio Vittorini, and engage in a conversation with Adrian Wootton, CEO of Film London.

For IULM students, this will be a valuable opportunity to meet one of today’s most influential thriller writers and explore the narrative techniques that shape his work.
We welcome the university community and noir enthusiasts to attend.

Mick Herron (Newcastle, 1963) made his literary debut in 2003 with the novel Down Cemetery Road (turned into the 2025 TV series of the same name), and has gone on to publish over fifteen novels, including two series starring the same character. He also writes stories for Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine. His books have won numerous awards, among them the Gold Dagger in 2013, for Dead Lions, and the 2025 Cartier Diamond Dagger for Lifetime Achievement, both bestowed on him by the Crime Writers’ Association. Agent Jackson Lamb made his appearance in  Slow Horses in 2010, acclaimed as one of the top twenty spy stories of all time. The TV series made for Apple TV+ inspired by the character is one of the most viewed series ever.
