University - 09 June 2023

The results of the 2023 edition of the ranking - compiled by the international agency Times Higher Education (THE) - testify to the considerable progress Università IULM has made in all the goals in which it has participated.

IULM continues its rise in THE Impact Rankings, which assesses the activities undertaken by universities to meet the 2030 Agenda set by the United Nations General Assembly. The Agenda is composed of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), used as key criteria to measure the impact and effectiveness of universities in advancing the critically important global sustainability agenda.

The results of the 2023 edition of the ranking - compiled by the international agency Times Higher Education (THE) - testify to the considerable progress Università IULM has made in all the goals in which it has participated. Especially gratifying, for the key goal "Gender Equality" (SDG5), IULM ranked 81 internationally, first among Milanese universities and fourth among Italian universities. IULM’s achievement demonstrates the university’s multi-faceted and continuous commitment towards gender equality, particularly reflected in the implementation of a key strategic agenda ensuring equal access to education, without any gender-based discrimination.

Confirming the importance that the academic community attaches to the theme of commitment to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, IULM ranked in several new goals obtaining very encouraging results. For the goal "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions" (SDG16), the University achieved a score of 70, ranking in the 101-200 range, well above the international average (score of 54.6), demonstrating the culture of equity and transparency promoted by the University. This result allowed IULM to rank first in Milan and second in Italy.

Finally, in the Overall ranking (which evaluates the average over all 17 objectives) IULM ranked in the first third of all participants, almost 1600 for this year, improving its position by over 200 places. The result should be considered a double success both because it is significantly higher than the previous edition's positioning and because the competition was tighter (with 14% more participants compared to the 2022 edition).

Università IULM is proud of its achievements: the high scores obtained in the goals "Gender Equality (SDG5)," "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions" (SDG16) and "Reduced Inequality (SDG10)" are emblematic of the University's concrete and ongoing commitment to support, promote and disseminate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The University, aware of its primary role in disseminating and promoting cardinal global values such as sustainability, is determined to create an increasingly inclusive and responsible environment embracing the entire IULM network inside and outside the Campus. Indeed, the commitment to these values guides the entire academic community in its daily life, promoting a culture of active participation, where every opinion counts. In this joint effort, IULM intends to continue in its dedicated commitment to training future citizens, with a perspective of continuous personal growth and a meaningful contribution to society.
