Anna Luigia De Simone is Associate professor of Cinema, Photography and Television (L-Art/06), where she teaches Curatorial practice and exhibition media, History of contemporary art, and Art and Television at the Faculty of Arts and Tourism - IULM University where she is also member of the Ph.D in Visual and Media Studies Committee.
In 2015, she coordinated the curatorial staff of the Italian Pavilion at the 56th International Art Exhibition - la Biennale di Venezia.
Currently, she coordinates the editorial project of the Encyclopedia of Contemporary Art Treccani, directed by V. Trione.
Since 2017 she has been a regular contributor to the magazine “Arte” (Cairo Editore).
She has contributed to the documentary archival researches and to the editorial and curatorial coordination of international catalogues and exhibitions. Among the others: Mario Sironi/Constant Permeke: i luoghi e l'anima (Palazzo Reale di Milano, 2005); El siglo de Giorgio de Chirico (IVAM, 2007); Valencia 09-Confines. Pasajes de las artes contemporaneas (IVAM, 2009); Salvador Dalí. Il sogno si avvicina (Palazzo Reale di Milano, 2010); Alberto Savinio. La commedia dell’arte (Palazzo Reale di Milano, 2011); Post-classici. La ripresa dell'antico nell'arte contemporanea italiana (Foro romano e al Palatino di Roma, 2013); Codice Italia (Biennale di Venezia, 2015).
In 2010, she curated the section “Dalí and media” of the exhibition Salvador Dalí. Il sogno si avvicina, curated by V. Trione, at Palazzo Reale di Milano. She has held the critical coordination of the following exhibitions: Igort. Pagine nomadi (Triennale di Milano, 2012), Claudio Abate. Obiettivo arte (Triennale di Milano, 2013), In atelier. Aurelio Amendola: fotografie 1970-2014 (Triennale di Milano, 2014), Gregorio Botta. Un’altra Ultima Cena (Triennale di Milano, 2015-Expo 2015), GAME VIDEO/ART. A SURVEY, (IULM OPEN SPACE-XX1 Triennale di Milano, 2016), Antonio Biasiucci. Riti (IULM OPEN SPACE, 2017), Marco Nereo Rotelli. Le forme del valore: arte e denaro (Campus IULM, 2019); and of the digital exhibition titled Still Lives. Arte oltre l’emergenza (www.iulm.it).
She has published the books: Architetture d’avanguardia. Scenari e visioni della città nel Novecento (2008), La superficie del mondo. Spazio dell’immagine e immagine dello spazio nei ritratti di Andy Warhol (2012), and Andy Warhol’s TV. Dall’arte alla televisione (2017). In 2009, she curated a collection of reviews by Gillo Dorfles. Inviato alla Biennale 1949 al 2009 (Scheiwiller).
MAIN AREAS OF SCIENTIFIC INTEREST
Anna Luigia De Simone’s research interests encompass visual studies and aim at studying intermediality processes among art, photography, cinema, and television.
