She graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures (summa cum laude) in 2002 and obtained a PhD in Anthropology and Epistemology of Complexity (judgement: excellent) in 2007 from the University of Bergamo, where she has been researching and collaborating in teaching since 2007.
She has carried out international (Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger, Libya, Angola/Namibia, Tunisia; Europe: Berlin) and national (Bergamo Province, Trento Autonomous Province, Lampedusa, Mazara del Vallo - Sicily) bibliographic and archival field research.
She has been scientific co-responsible for the work of the Complexity Research Centre (Ce.R.Co.) of the University of Bergamo within the EUBORDERSCAPES Project (2012/2016), funded by the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development of the European Union.
She has had the scientific responsibility for research on his study topics entrusted to various institutions in the area of the Province of Bergamo (Department of Personal Sciences and Research Centre on Anthropology and Epistemology of Complexity, University of Bergamo; Caritas Diocesana Bergamasca; Integration Agency of Bergamo; Province of Bergamo - Social Policies and Health Sector; Municipality of Treviglio - BG).
She has collaborated with the activities of the Doctoral School in Anthropology and Epistemology of Complexity and Ce.R.Co. - Research Centre on Anthropology and Epistemology of Complexity, University of Bergamo (2007-2011). He has participated in the activities of the University Research Centre on Complexity (Ce.R.Co.), University of Bergamo (2012-2016). Collaborates (from December 2016) to the interdisciplinary research project "Borders, frontiers, migrations, intercultural spaces. Theoretical-conceptual, methodological and applicative challenges", promoted by CQIA - Centre for the quality of teaching and learning, University of Bergamo. She has collaborated with STEP - Scuola per il governo del territorio e del paesaggio, Trentino School of Management di Trento (2012-2013).
Since 2006, she has been an associate member of the Nijmegen Centre for Border Research (NCBR), Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen (Netherlands), with visits as a visiting researcher and guest lecturer. She participated in the interdisciplinary research project "Border Aesthetics" promoted by the University of Tromsø (Norway) and funded by the Research Council of Norway (2011-2013).
She collaborates with numerous international universities and research institutes, including: Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies on Racism (CEMFOR), Uppsala University and Department of Social Anthropology, Stockholm University (Sweden); Centre for Migration and Diaspora Studies, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London (United Kingdom); Centre for Research on Migration, Refugees and Belonging, University of East London (United Kingdom); Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Helsinki (Finland); Institute of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology, University of Göttingen (Germany); Borders, Mobilities, and Cultural Encounters (BOMOCULT) research area, University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu (Finland); Key Area MIS - Migration and Intercultural Studies, Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education, University of Luxembourg.
She has participated as a speaker (also invited speaker and keynote speaker) and as a member of the scientific and organizational committees at numerous conferences and seminars at national and international level.
As part of the scientific activities carried out within the European Project 7th Framework Programme EUBORDERSCAPES: she conceived and directed (with S. Visinoni) the documentary film "Houdoud al bahr | I Confini del Mare: Mazara - Mahdia", Italy, 2015; she had the supervision, the scientific advice and collaborated in the conception (with Rita Ceresoli) of the exhibition "Houdoud al bahr | I confini del mare" (2016).
She was among the curators of the Festival Frontiera - Metropolitan Passages: Cinema, Visual Arts and Narrations
(Bergamo, 6 March-12 April 2009, organization: Bergamo Film Meeting, Associazione Millepiani in collaboration with GAMeC - Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, Ce.R.Co. - Centro di Ricerca sull'Antropologia e l'Epistemologia della Complessità, University of Bergamo).
She has been a member of the editorial board of the journal "Afriche e Orienti" (2008-2013) and has been a member of the editorial board of the journal "Journal of Borderlands Studies" since April 2018, acting as editor in chief for Europe.
She is a member of the African Borderlands Research Network (ABORNE) and the Association for Borderlands Studies (ABS), in which she was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors for the three-year period 2016/2019. She is a member of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA), the Italian Society of Applied Anthropology (SIAA) and the Italian Society of Cultural Anthropology (SIAC).
