Patrizia Mello is Associate Professor in Design at IULM University.
She is interested in the theory, history and criticism of contemporary project, architecture and industrial design, from the end of the nineteenth century to today, with a multidisciplinary approach for a complex evaluation of the social impact of the project.
Graduated in Architecture at the University of Florence with a thesis of a historical, critical, theoretical and literary nature entitled "The sound of things", she obtained a PhD in Architectural Technology at the same University where she was also a Researcher in History of Contemporary Architecture. She is qualified to practice as an architect. In addition to the qualification as an Associate Professor in GSD 08/CEAR-08, she also obtained two qualifications, for the same role, in GSD 08/CEAR-11 and one in GSD 08/CEAR-09.
He has taught at several universities, including the School of Architecture and Design at the University of Camerino, the degree course in Industrial Design and the Department of Architecture at the University of Florence, the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. He has held lessons for several masters (Syracuse University; Kent State University; La Sapienza; Academy of Architecture of Mendrisio; University of Florence; Polytechnic of Milan, University of Bologna).
The research topics have been the subject of in-depth study with the organization of conferences, study meetings, exhibitions and seminars at public institutions (museums and libraries) and universities.
In 1995 he founded and directed, until its closure, IDEA (Industrial Design Electronic Address), one of the first design websites at an international level, and the first in Italy; a place for “cultured” discussion on the Industrial Design project, with contributions from different disciplinary fields (theoretical, historical, design, sociological, philosophical), characterized by the common note of constant experimentation on the level of “ideas” with a view to developing projects for everyday life.
