40 IULM students at Mogol's CET: creativity, music and growth

Students - 23 July 2025

IULM is the first Italian university to bring residential teaching to the Centro Europeo di Toscolano

From 23 to 29 July 2025, a selected group of 40 outstanding students from IULM University will take part in an exceptional, fully-funded study retreat at the Centro Europeo di Toscolano (CET), located in the beautiful Tenuta dei Ciclamini estate in Umbria. This initiative offers a unique, immersive experience focused on fostering the students’ creative, personal, and professional development. IULM is proud to be the first Italian university ever hosted at CET.

The study vacation at CET is structured as a residential learning experience, where living and learning are integrated in a shared environment. Students and faculty will spend a full week together, engaging in meaningful exchanges, continuous learning, and collaborative dialogue. This format supports the development of authentic relationships, encourages mutual trust and cooperation, and creates a fertile ground for personal growth. Daily interaction outside traditional classrooms enables deep, multidimensional learning.

The Centro Europeo di Toscolano, an arts academy founded by Giulio Rapetti Mogol, is now a leading centre of excellence for education in the fields of music and creativity. CET is officially recognized as a Centre of Public Interest by the Italian Ministry of Culture and has active collaborations with prestigious international institutions such as Harvard and Berklee College of Music.

Throughout the week, IULM students will participate in an intensive schedule of workshops and lessons led by industry professionals from the fields of music and communication. These theory-and-practice-based activities will cover a wide range of topics—from creative writing to vocal training, from songwriting analysis and composition to sound production technology. Among the featured modules:

  • "How to write a song"
  • "The history of Mogol's songs"
  • "History and technique of music composition"
  • "How to write song lyrics"
  • "Music and technology: the processes of music production"
  • "The recording studio: software, hardware and tools"

The project aims to encourage interdisciplinary learning, foster group collaboration, and develop soft skills through artistic expression and the power of words.

“With this initiative,” stated Rector Garavaglia, “IULM strengthens its commitment to an educational approach centered on experience and human connection. Taking our students to a place as symbolically rich in creativity and language as CET means offering them a unique opportunity for dialogue with the professional world, enhancing their academic journey with shared inspiration.”
