Cape Verde Anthropology Review, under the Sponsorship of IULM
IULM University is pleased to announce its sponsorship of "No Island is an Island. Anthropologies of Cape Verde," a series of events curated by our University in collaboration with the Amilcar Cabral Library in Bologna. This review, an integral part of the third mission activities of the Department's project coordinated by Prof. Maggioli, explores the complex social and identity dynamics of the Cape Verde archipelago through a series of meetings, workshops and presentations.
First event: April 4, 2025, 6 p.m
- "No Island is an Island. Anthropologies of Cape Verde."
- Presentation of the dossier "Nessuna isola è un'isola. Insularità, trasformazioni sociali e processi identitari a Capo Verde", monograph no. 3/2023 of the journal LARES, edited by Martina Giuffrè (University of Parma) and Giacomo Pozzi (IULM University).
- Speakers: Cristina Ercolessi (University of Naples "L'Orientale"), Maria de Lourdes Jesus (journalist), Marzio Marzot (photographer), Silvia Stefani (University of Genoa) and Neusa Tsimba (Sociolab Società Cooperativa e Impresa, Florence).
Other dates:
- June 6, 2025: Workshop with artist Francesca Marconi, who will explore the intersection of the memory of slavery, the legacy of Portuguese colonialism and daily life in Cape Verde.
- Fall 2025 (date to be determined): Meeting with Martina Giuffrè to present the new edition of "Women of Cape Verde," featuring women from the Cape Verdean diaspora in Italy.
