IULM University brings hands-on training to the 83rd Venice Film Festival.

Cinema isn’t just something you study: it’s something you experience, create, and share. It is on this idea thatIULM University has built a significant part of its identity, fostering a dialogue between education and the places, languages, and key figures of the film industry. This connection is being renewed through September 12 atthe 83rd Venice International Film Festival, where students, alumni, and faculty members of the university are involved in productions, juries, competitions, and meetings.

“Venice ,” said IULM University Rector Valentina Garavaglia , “ is a testament to a vision of the university that has set us apart for years: bringing what we teach to life. Seeing our students on the jury, our graduates on set and behind the camera, and our faculty members active on multiple fronts at the Film Festival is concrete proof that the path we’ve charted over the years is working. And in this regard, we must thank Professor Gianni Canova, Past Rector of IULM and an extraordinary professor of film, for the impetus he has given to the Seventh Art. We will continue to invest in this connection between the University and cinema, because that is where the skills and vocations of those who will tell the story of our times tomorrow are forged.”

At the heart of IULM’s participation, for the third year, is *Finestra sul Lido*, the original production by IULM Play, created in collaboration with the Giornate degli Autori. Every day at 6 p.m., live from IULM Studios on the Milan campus and from the Lido, more than twenty students from the degree programs in Communication, Media, and Advertising; Television, Cinema and New Media, and Arts and Cultural Events will provide an insider’s look at the Festival, with exclusive content, interviews, and behind-the-scenes insights. Rounding out the coverage of the Festival are the students of Radio IULM, with Voce al Lido, a project that brings together social media, podcasts, live radio broadcasts, and blogs. A group of students sent to Venice conducts interviews and produces a daily podcast, while a larger team in the Milan studio creates three special live broadcasts featuring film experts and IULM faculty members. IULM’s presence at the Lido spans the various facets of the Festival: students are invited to serve on the juries, while alumni and faculty bring to Venice their works, skills, and experience in writing, production, directing, and acting.

Claudia Varca and Iris Catoggio, students in the Master’s Degree Program in Television, Film, and New Media, were selected by UNIMED to serve on the International Jury of the UNIMED Awards, the award sponsored by the Mediterranean Universities Union, which honors the film in competition that best embodies the values of cultural diversity, dialogue, inclusion, and freedom of artistic expression.

Livia Inzaina, a student in the Master’s Degree Program in Television, Cinema, and New Media, is a member of the Venezia Classici Jury, composed of film students from Italian universities and tasked with awarding the prize for best film among the classics selected for this edition of the Festival.

Michelangelo Frammartino, who teaches “Cinema: Video Art and Audiovisual Installations” at IULM, appears in *Domenica Capitale* (Sunday Special), a film directed and written by Giovanna Giuliani and presented in the “Notti Veneziane” section of the Giornate degli Autori. The film’s producer is Giulio Sangiorgio, a professor in the Laboratory of Festival and Event Organization and Management at IULM.

Daniele Mencarelli, a faculty member in the CUT IULM Dramaturgy Workshop, is co-screenwriter of *Fame d’aria*. The film by Giuseppe Bonito is presented in the “Confronti” selection at Giornate degli Autori and is based onMencarelli’s novel of the same name (Mondadori).

Andrea Brusa, a graduate of IULM University with a degree in Television, Film, and Multimedia Production, is the co-screenwriter of Balcanica alongside director Nicola Sorcinelli. The film isthe only Italian entry in competition at the 23rd edition of the Giornate degli Autori.

Elisa Chiari and Francesca Trovato, IULM graduates in Television, Film, and New Media, are the directors of the short film *Gusci*, which is in competition at the International Critics’ Week.

On the occasion of the 83rd Venice Film Festival, IULM is collaborating with Canon, a multinational company associated with MondoIULM, the network of companies that contribute to the university’s development and foster dialogue between the university and the professional world.
