Mediamorphosis

Culture - 06 March 2023

May 31 in our Athenaeum a conference on adaptations, transmedia and franchises in the age of convergence

Appreciated or belittled, loved or hated, adaptations still invite us to reflect on the changing modes of transmission of cultural heritage, as well as on the perpetual transformation of values and identities for which the arts system has always been one of the main spaces of contention and negotiation.

Through the interventions of numerous scholars, the conference Mediamorphosis: adaptations, transmediality and franchise in the age of convergence aims to offer a multidisciplinary overview of theevolution of the theories of adaptation and intermediality that have taken place at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, while dwelling on some of the main phenomena of remediation in recent decades.
Ranging from the well-established dialogue between literature and the world of audiovisuals, to new encroachments from and into environmental or interactive media, the aim is thus to promote a multidisciplinary approach to the dynamics of intersemiotic translation in the age of convergence, where many of the categories taken for granted (the hierarchical relationship between the original work and its transpositions, the essentialist conception of aesthetic languages, etc.) now seem to be undergoing an overall reconsideration.

The Mediamorphosis conference will be held at IULM University in Aula Seminari (IULM 1, sixth floor) on May 31, 2023 from 9:00 am.
