IULM Authors: Sociology of AI

Sede di Roma - 10 June 2026 - Event date 18 June 2026

A new event in the series of meetings at IULM's Rome campus

IULM University, as part of the IULM Authors cycle, is pleased to announce the presentation of the volume Sociology of AI. Creativity, Consciousness, Power (Guerini Next, Milan 2025), an intellectual project by Mauro Ferraresi, with Massimiliano Raffa.

Artificial intelligence is a sophisticated technology, but a technology that generates meanings and produces culture, perhaps even something like a form of consciousness. And who holds the power over these processes?

The book addresses these issues and questions with the tools of sociology: not to celebrate nor to condemn, but to understand. Ferraresi and Raffa trace a genealogy of technology as an extension of the human, analyze new forms of algorithmic power, interrogate artificial creativity and its ethical implications, and open up the problem, far from academic, of a possible synthetic consciousness. In the background, the inequalities that AI infrastructures are already producing in the social fabric.
A necessary book for those who want to understand the present that will be.
