Film director Giorgio Diritti in IULM to present his film L'uomo che verrà
On the occasion of the Liberation anniversary, the director presents his film in dialogue with Prof. Canova
Giorgio Diritti's cinema focuses on historical memory and the stories of marginalized or forgotten communities. His film L'uomo che verrà (2009), winner of the David di Donatello and the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the Rome Film Festival, will be screened at IULM near the 80th anniversary of Italy's Liberation from Nazi-Fascism. The film is set in the winter of 1943-44 in the hills of Bologna and features an eight-year-old girl as its protagonist: it is through her eyes that we witness the daily hardships of a peasant community grappling with war, hunger and the growing threat of Nazi-Fascist roundups.
The screening of the film on the anniversary of the Liberation takes on a particularly intense meaning. L'uomo che verrà is not only a tale of tragedy, but also a work that recalls the sacrifice of civilian communities in the struggle against Nazi-Fascism. Its sober and respectful narrative invites reflection on historical memory and the value of the Resistance, making it a film of great importance for understanding the price of freedom we can enjoy today.
Commemorating the Liberation, eighty years after 1945, assumes a particular significance. The University serves as a crucial hub in the construction of an appropriate memory of those events, which forms the basis for cultivating a civic sense of mature citizenship within a democracy, understood as the coexistence of diverse individuals in an atmosphere of respect and tolerance. Therefore, IULM University aims to create opportunities for reflection and in-depth analysis, in accordance with its inherent vocation. (Prof. Guido Formigoni)
The screening, which will take place on April 16 at 12 p.m. in Auditorium (IULM 6), will be followed by a dialogue between the director and Prof. Gianni Canova and will also feature the participation of IULM Vice Rector and Professor of Contemporary History Guido Formigoni.
The event is open to the IULM community and citizenship upon registration at this form.
The event is part of the Badge of Honour activities. Attendance at the screening corresponds to the completion of 1 of the 4 activities (for students enrolled in master's degree programs) and 1 of the 6 activities (for students enrolled in bachelor's degree programs) required to earn the badge of honor point.
