Analysis and Teaching of Singing: Research, Practice and Interdisciplinary Perspectives
An international conference on the voice across music, performing arts and the humanities
The voice stands at the intersection of artistic practice, cultural expression and scientific research. The international conference Analysis and Teaching of Singing, curated by Stefano Lombardi Vallauri and Marco Spagnolo, explores the role of the voice in vocal repertoires and pedagogical practices through a broad interdisciplinary approach.
The programme is structured around three main areas: the comparison of musical genres and styles; vocal practices beyond music, including theatre, spoken poetry and performance art; and contributions from extra-artistic disciplines such as philosophy, linguistics and physiology. By fostering dialogue among different fields, the conference aims to promote an integrated vision of vocal studies capable of enriching the teaching and learning of singing.
Participants include Federico Albano Leoni, Benjamin Bagby, Felicita Brusoni, Valentina Colonna, Antonio Di Corcia, Simone Di Crescenzo, Michael Edgerton, Alessandro Fabrizi, Franco Fussi, Michela Garda, Rosaria Lo Russo, Loretta Martinez, Francesca Placanica, Massimo Privitera, Candace Smith, Francesco Venturi and Gioacchino Zarrelli. Conference secretariat: Silvia Velardi.
The conference is held within the framework of the NextGenerationEU project Sounding Images – Screening Sounds (SISS), funded by the European Union through the Italian Ministry of University and Research. Within this project, IULM University of Milan collaborates with the Trento Conservatory (project lead), the Lecce Conservatory and the European Institute of Design (IED) in Milan.
