Astrid Welter has contributed, from 1997 until 2019, to the development and artistic program of Fondazione Prada, coordinating the organization of internationally acclaimed exhibitions and projects by artists including, among others: Laurie Anderson, John Baldessari, Thomas Demand, Robert Gober, Goshka Macuga, Mariko Mori, Steve McQueen, Tobias Rehberger, Tom Sachs and Francesco Vezzoli. Special projects organized by Welter include Carsten Höller's Double Club in London (2008-2009), Alejandro G. Inarritu's virtual reality installation Carne y Arena (2017) and Theaster Gates' Black Image Corporation series in Milan, Miami and London (2018-2019). As Project Director, Welter coordinated the transformation and expansion of Fondazione Prada in its headquarters at Ca' Corner della Regina in Venice (2011) and the construction and inauguration of the permanent headquarters of Fondazione Prada, designed by OMA/Rem Koolhaas (2015)
Since 2020 Welter has held the position of Senior Director of Kaufmann Repetto, a contemporary art gallery with offices in Milan and New York, dedicated to women's research and socio-political activism practices within art production
Welter graduated from the University of Milan with a thesis on Young British Art and is pursuing a Master in Philosophy at Fernuniversität Hagen.
