Simone Arcagni is Associate Professor at
IULM University.
He was previously Professor at the University of Palermo.
His professional experiences prior to entering academia are related to music and film criticism, journalism and publishing, where he has held various roles for different publishing houses: translator, series editor, non-fiction consultant, head of the press office and communication, editorial director.
He has taught several courses at NABA, IUAV, the Politecnico of Turin, IED and the Scuola Holden School, as well as master's degrees and courses at several Italian and foreign universities.
He was the editor of the scientific journal "Close-up" and the scientific journal "EmergingSeries" (which he founded). He is on the scientific committee of the following journals and publishing series: "Digital Age in Semiotics" (University of Sofia - Bulgaria); publishing series NTA - New Technologies for Art; editorial board of journal "Cultura Visuale" (Mimesis); publishing series "Liminalia - Collana di Teoria sociale" (Kaplan); "Cinergie", journal and publishing series (Mimesis); publishing series "cinemaespanso" (Bulzoni); "Game - Games as Art, media, Entertainment. The Italian Journal of Games Studies"; "Trans(forma)" editorial series.
He has written for the scholarly journals "SegnoCinema," "Bianco&Nero," "Fata Morgana," "Imago," "La Valle dell'Eden," "Otto e mezzo," "Oxygen," and "Cinergie."
He has contributed as a journalist and columnist to the magazines "Il Mucchio Selvaggio," "Tutto Digitale," "Videotecnica," "Film," "Bravacasa," "Home!", "Technonews," "Zivago," "cheFare," "AGCult," "Tascabile," and "LMDP." And for newspapers, "Repubblica," "Tomorrow" and "Il Sole 24Ore."
He currently writes for "Il Sole 24Ore"; edits the column titled "Cinema futuro" for "Film TV" and the book column for the program "Digital World" (Rai).
He directs the series (with Daniele Rosa) "Nautilus" for Luiss University Press.
His research has covered different topics of digital culture and media: computer vision, web videos, web series, webdocs, the relationship NFT and cinema, synthetic media and thus generative artificial intelligences and cinema, Virtual Reality, the Metaverse...

As a curator, he has signed several conferences and reviews of cinema, video, music video and video art. Among others, he has been curator for the Pesaro Film Festival, SeeYouSound, Future Film Fest, Screen City Festival (Stavanger - Norway), Share Festival, Sole Luna, VRE-Virtual Reality Experience, Sottodiciotto, Rome Videogame Lab, Immaginario TV, Roma Web Fest, Letterature Migranti, Efebo D'Oro, Rome Videogame Lab, and View Conferences.
He was director of the Festival dell’Innovazione della Scienza in Settimo Torinese and is director and is director of OnLive Campus.
Curated exhibitions include: Generative AI and Cinema (with Pietro Lafiandra) for Rome Videogame Lab, Cinecittà and Auditorium Parco della Musica, in collaboration with Rai Cinema (2024); curator of the AI room of the exhibition The Future of Cinema The Cinema of the Future, National Museum of Cinema in Turin (2023); NFT | Cinema (with Mattia Nicoletti) exhibition at Cinecittà with the support of Rome Videogame Lab, ANICA and Rai Cinema (2022); Cinema futuro, exhibition at Cinecittà with the support of Rome Videogame Lab and Rai Cinema (2021); Futuri Passati, exhibition at the Polo del '900 within Biennale Democrazia (2019); #FacceEmozioni (with Donata Pesenti Campagnoni), exhibition at the National Museum of Cinema (2019).
As scientific advisor he is on the Board of Meet - Digital Culture Center and Invisible Studio, and is scientific advisor for the National Museum of Cinema in Turin, Fondazione Civita, Ufficio Studi Rai.
He has been a consultant for Polo del '900, Prix Italia-Rai, Film Commission Sicilia, Piemonte Film Commission.
He is a follower of the Nexa Center of the Politecnico of Turin.
He is director (together with Manuela Cacciamani) of Metalab in Naples and is the scientific head of ANICA's Union of Publishers and Digital Creators.
