A Christmas with La Scala thanks to IULM

University - 11 December 2020

IULM's collaboration with La Scala in Milan continues. Our University will provide live streaming of a programme of concerts and other events planned for the Christmas festivities.

After the international success of the event "...a riveder le stelle" ("A triumph" according to Richard Fairman, music critic of the Financial Times), the Teatro alla Scala continues with the streaming activity, while awaiting signals of a possible reopening of the halls. IULM University will once again be at its side to allow the public to watch the singing recitals, concerts and ballet rehearsals scheduled for the Christmas period on the website www.teatroallascala.org and on the Theater's Facebook and YouTube pages, where they will be available for seven days.

"The ten-year collaboration between frala Scala and the IULM University is a significant example of virtuous innovation - explains IULM Rector Gianni Canova - "It is a sign of trust: trust in culture, in art, in the new generations that are becoming protagonists - with IULM undergraduates and recent graduates ensuring the streaming of La Scala shows, concerts and events - of a new way of communicating and designing the cultural landscape of the future. In times of pandemic, continuing to produce music, entertainment and debate helps to keep up the civil level of our living together. And we are proud to be able to be of help".

IULM students, coordinated by La Scala's web editorial staff, will be filming and streaming a programme of concerts and other events at the theatre. "IULM will thus have the honour and responsibility of broadcasting the production of an institution like La Scala. It is an innovative way of training our young people, who will put their theoretical knowledge into practice and measure themselves on the professions they will go on to work in", says the IULM Rector in an interview published today in Il Corriere della Sera.

The first event will be on Monday 14 December, at 8 pm, when soprano Sabine Devieilhe, star of the stage, will perform Ravel, Poulenc, Fauré and Debussy in the Sala del Piermarini together with refined pianist Alexandre Tharaud.

Rehearsals for the Nutcracker pas de deux will be broadcast at 8 p.m. on Monday 21 December, while on Monday 4 January, also at 8 p.m., baritone Markus Werba will perform a programme entirely dedicated to Robert Schumann with pianist James Baillieu.

Finally, there are also appointments dedicated to the youngest with the three Concerts for Children. They will be held at 11 a.m. on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Epiphany and will feature a classic piece of children's music and a piece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
