The study day Lo spazio attraverso i media. Prospettive narratologiche aims to reflect on the relationship between space and narrative in its articulation among various media, from literature to cinema, from comics to video games, and to interactive digital narratives.
The basic idea is that narratological studies has never gone really deeply into the study of the spatial dimension of narrative texts. There are studies devoted to the issue, but they have always been less prominent than those on time, narrative voices, and point of view. And this is all the more curious when one considers that space constitutes a fundamental dimension of narrative texts, and at the same time of how the reader experiences a story.
The study day aims to reflect on this order of issues, reasoning about the ways in which space can be studied narratologically. To do this, a transmedia perspective will be adopted, that is, paying particular attention to the medium through which the story is conveyed, while at the same time reflecting on the possibility that there are cross-cutting tools and concepts that can be applied to the study of space across different media.
The study day is organized by the IULM Unit (Filippo Pennacchio [PI], Marzia Beltrami, Paolo Giovannetti) of the PRIN 2022 project PNRR For an Atlas of Italian Ecological Literature: From the Great Acceleration to the Pandemic (LEDA), conducted together with the Universities of Siena and Bologna.
Scientific and organizing committee: Marzia Beltrami, Paolo Giovannetti, Filippo Pennacchio.
