Before the Premiere: La Scala Opens Its Doors to IULM Students

Opportunities - 03 November 2026

Ahead of the premiere at La Scala in Milan, IULM students will have the opportunity to sign up for the open rehearsals of Giuseppe Verdi’s *Otello *.

How is a major opera production created? Ahead of the opening of La Scala’s 2026/2027 opera season, IULM students will have the opportunity to participate in three events dedicated to Otello by Giuseppe Verdi: an opportunity to delve deeper into Verdi’s masterpiece and discover the work that goes into staging it.

The Maestro Meets the Students – In Anticipation of Giuseppe Verdi’s *Otello*

The first event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10, at 11:00 a.m., in the Sala Verdi at the Milan Conservatory. Music Director Myung-Whun Chung will speak with Paolo Gavazzeni, Coordinator of the Artistic Direction at Teatro alla Scala, guiding students on a journey of discovery through the opera.

To participate in the event, you must register by November 6 using the form available on this page.

Otello – Rehearsal Series

The program continues at Teatro alla Scala with two events dedicated to rehearsals:

  • November 24, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Antepiano;

  • November 26, 2026, at 2:30 p.m.: Full cast rehearsal.

The open rehearsals offer a unique glimpse into the heart of the theater: an opportunity to witness the collaborative work of the artists as they define the rhythms, intentions, and details of the production.
