"Persone&Talenti," a two-day dialogue between the world of education and the world of work

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the Rector of IULM University, Valentina Garavaglia, participated in the panel discussion "The Opening," which opened the event "Persone&Talenti 2025," organized by L'Economia del Corriere della Sera. The Talk, whose other speakeres were Francesco Billari (Rector Università Bocconi), Anna Maria Fellegara (Vice Pro-Rector, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore) and Donatella Sciuto (Rector Politecnico di Milano) has been an important opportunity for IULM to actively contribute to the debate on the future of education and work.

The central theme of the meeting has been "The Value of the Degree," to reflect on the role of universities in preparing young people to face the challenges of an ever-changing world of work. In the afternoon, the event will continue with a series of workshops and hands-on laboratories dedicated to young people.

"A degree is needed if you want to build a longer perspective, a degree gives you the impulse and gives depth to the work and experience of life and education. And then the subject of learning to think and study is fundamental, because there is no such thing as doing without thinking," said Rector Valentina Garavaglia on the subject.

Asked how she sees young people today, Rector Garavaglia replied: "Since they do not immediately know which profession to identify, they need to be passionate: this is the challenge for us teachers. We have to bring them back to reality, get them out of their smartphones and help them not to be afraid to express themselves. Let's bring trusting relationships back into the classrooms".
