Massimo Recalcati at IULM to ponder the theme of mental health

Culture - 20 September 2022

A screening of the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest will be held at IULM on October 10 at 6:30 p.m. Following this, Massimo Recalcati and Gianni Canova will be on stage at the Auditorium to discuss, starting from the film, the theme of mental health and the fight against social stigma

On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, on 10 October at 6.30 p.m., the IULM Auditorium will be hosting a screening of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Miloŝ Forman's masterpiece that in 1975 radically changed the way the Seventh Art dealt with mental pathologies and the inhuman methods of restraint applied within psychiatric facilities.

At 8.30 p.m., after the screening, psychoanalyst Prof. Massimo Recalcati and IULM Rector Prof. Gianni Canova will be on stage at the Auditorium to talk about the film and the representation of mental illness in cinema and the media, thus bringing to attention a very delicate and above all topical issue. In the first year of the pandemic, the cases of anxiety and depression in the world have, in fact, increased by 25 per cent but, as reported by the WHO, this is only the tip of the iceberg: the impact of the Covid on mental health could be even worse.

The event is sold out.
