Thanks to funding from the Regione Lombardia, IULM is establishing the Human-Centric Digital Sustainability Hub, a research infrastructure dedicated to digital sustainability.

IULM University has secured over 1.5 million euros in funding under the Regione Lombardia 2021–2027 ERDF Regional Program to develop the Human-Centric Digital Sustainability Hub (Hu-DSH), a research infrastructure dedicated to digital sustainability.

Coordinated by Professor Andrea Carignani, the project aims to support businesses and organizations in their technological transformation through a human-centric approach, focusing on the impact of technologies on people, society, and organizational processes.

The initiative strengthens IULM’s interdisciplinary research path, which integrates the humanities, communication, and emerging technologies. Digital sustainability is interpreted not only as technological efficiency but also as the responsible, ethical, and informed use of digital technologies.

The new Hub will offer advanced services to businesses—particularly Lombardy-based SMEs—including workshop sessions for managers and corporate teams dedicated to raising awareness of digital decision-making, analysis of human-technology interaction with a focus on human control, cognitive load, responsibility, and ethical impacts; and co-design and experimentation activities to support the informed, sustainable, and human-centered adoption of digital technologies. The activities will be available both remotely and in a physical space dedicated to co-design, testing, and training.

The 24-month project will fund the creation and launch of the Human-Centric Digital Sustainability Hub (Hu-DSH). The goal is to create a stable infrastructure to support research and innovation on human-centric digital sustainability, with a model that can be replicated beyond the Lombardy region.
