AI and Generation Z: IULM Presents the Results of a Study Involving Over 3,000 Students
On June 25 at IULM, there will be a presentation of the book *Emotional Futurescapes* and the results of a study involving more than 3,000 college students and their relationship with artificial intelligence.
On June 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., inthe Piramide at IULM University, there will be a presentation of the book *Emotional Futurescapes: Living, Learning, and Interacting with AI Among Younger Generations*, edited by Professors Ariela Mortara and Rosantonietta Scramaglia. The event, open to the public, will be followed by a discussion with the authors.
The book brings together fourteen interdisciplinary contributions dedicated to the impacts of artificial intelligence on society, education, professions, and social relationships, offering a reflection that goes beyond both the enthusiasm and the alarmism that often accompany the debate on AI.
Particular attention will be given to the results of the IULM interdepartmental research project “Emotional Futurescapes: Living, Learning, and Interacting with AI Among Younger Generations.” The research is part of the two-year project by the Department of Communication, Arts, and Media— Social Adoption of Technologies and Generative Artificial Intelligences: Practices, Emotions, Imaginaries, and the Future— coordinated by Riccardo Pronzato.
The study involved over 3,000 young people from Generation Z and shows that the use of AI is now widespread in academic activities, while awareness of the risks and training in its critical use remain limited. The research also highlights that young people’s relationship with artificial intelligence depends not only on frequency of use but also on how these tools are perceived: as simple assistants, interlocutors, or even presences with whom to establish a relationship. The main findings will be presented by Federica Fortunato, Ariela Mortara, and Simonetta Muccio (IULM University).
Vittoria Sinisi (IULM University) will moderate the session. Following the opening remarks, speakers will include Riccardo Perlusz, an analyst and independent researcher in the field of new technologies; Eleonora Brivio and Stefano Rolando (IULM University), Mariateresa Gammone (University of L’Aquila), Raffaello Luly, a digital entrepreneur, and Andrea Stanchi, a lawyer specializing in labor law and new technologies, along with Bianca Maria Visconti, a master’s student. The presentations will explore topics such as the evolution of artificial intelligence and its social implications, the relationship between AI and decision-making processes, applications in the healthcare sector, changes in daily life, and the impact of new technologies on education and the workforce.
