The IULM and Noir in Festival competition for Italian cinema, conceived by Rector Gianni Canova in agreement with Giorgio Gosetti, features six finalists chosen by Gianni Canova and Giorgio Gosetti at their sole discretion from among the Italian-made noirs released in cinemas during the year 2021.

The six finalist films will be screened between 10 and 15 December in Milan in the Sala dei 146 of IULM 6, with the participation of the filmmakers.

The winner of the competition dedicated to the director Claudio Caligari, who died in 2015 and is the author of just three intense and painful feature films, will be chosen by a popular jury of young students and enthusiasts, led by three film critics including a President/Moderator.

"Never as this year," say Gianni Canova and Giorgio Gosetti, "has the choice of the finalists been a real challenge because the appeal of the genre has finally proved to be an original feature exploited by many of our authors, screenwriters and directors. The context of the pandemic has undoubtedly penalised the visibility of many quality works and this is another reason why we feel it is important to offer a new showcase for works capable of appealing to different audiences. The strength of the Award is now confirmed by the winners of the past editions: we are certain that this year too the charisma of Claudio Caligari will accompany our 2021 winner".

To apply for a free place on the jury, you must be over 18 years old and send, by Sunday 5 December 2021, an e-mail to [email protected] with the subject GIURIA CALIGARI 2021 indicating: name, surname, e-mail address, category of the juror (01 - IULM University student or 02 - Noir enthusiast).

Participants in the Jury are invited to express their thoughts on the film they consider most outstanding with a brief critique/review (max 600 characters including spaces) to be sent no later than 17 December to [email protected] with the subject GIURIA CALIGARI 2021 indicating: name, surname, e-mail address and category of the juror (01 - IULM University student or 02 - Noir enthusiast).

Participants in the Jury are invited to express a reflection on the film they consider most deserving with a brief critique/consideration (max 600 characters including spaces) to be sent no later than December 17th to the following email address [email protected]. Gianni Canova and Giorgio Gosetti will choose the six most significant mini-reviews that will be published on the Noir in Festival website (www.noirfest.com) at the end of the event.
