Ghiaccio - Shackleton's legendary expedition to the South Pole
Theater returns to IULM with the show "Ghiaccio" directed and performed by Massimiliano Cividati. A story, for music and words, on stage in our Auditorium on May 4 at 8:00 pm.
107 years have passed since the sinking of the Endurance, the famous ship of the British explorer Ernest Shackleton, which left England in 1914 with the aim of crossing the Antarctic continent from west to east by land. Just 80 miles from its destination, however, the ship, the Endurance, became trapped in the ice of the Weddell Sea. For 22 months, Shackleton and his crew were prisoners of an endless expanse of white and that immense wooden ship, 144 feet long (about 44 meters) with three masts, became the scene of a dramatic adventure of survival. Before sinking on November 21, 1915 after being crushed by an iceberg, Shackleton managed to bring his crew of 27 to safety, becoming a national hero and an icon of exploration, so much so that a crater on the Moon was named after him.
On March 9, 2022, after 107 years, in the coldest waters on the planet, the Endurance was found at a depth of 3,008 meters off the Weddel Sea. On the occasion of this exciting discovery, the story of the famous explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew of 27 people arrives on the stage of our Auditorium on May 4 with the show Ghiaccio - La leggendaria spedizione di Shackleton al Polo Sud ("Ice - Shackleton's legendary expedition to the South Pole ") directed and performed by Massimiliano Cividati
How can we retrace the steps of an insane exploration in a distant continent with a lunar, dreamlike landscape, how can we recreate the force of an untameable nature always ready to annihilate its guests, how can we tell of the hardships, the conflicts, the journey? Massimiliano Cividati, accompanied by two musicians, will narrate the exploits of these anti-heroes in a programmatic swing between comedy and dark cotè, in what has been the greatest and most desperate of Antarctic adventures.
