Colloque International: three-day conference at IULM
IULM University of Milan, in collaboration with Sapienza University of Rome, will host the Colloque International "Écritures et déchiffrements du golfe Arabo-Persique à la mer Égée entre les Troisième et Premier millénaires avant notre ère. Où en sommes-nous?" from February 6 to February 8, 2025.
Surrounding the deciphered scripts ranging from the Middle East to Egypt and the Aegean and covering a chronological space of more than three millennia (from the end of the 4th millennium B.C. for the cuneiform scripts and the Ancient Egyptian script, to the 1st century B.C. for the Classical Cypriot script), there are other scripts in the Middle and Near East, the Aegean and the Mediterranean that proudly resist any attempt at interpretation. The meeting aims to reflect on the methodology applied by each of the scholars who have succeeded in deciphering the Hieroglyphic, Cuneiform, Classical Cypriot, Hittite, Ugaritic and Linear B scripts, and to try to understand the reasons why so many neighboring scripts jealously guard their secrets.
