CURRENT POSITION

Emilio Mazza (1962) is associate professor of history of philosophy and member of the Commissione Paritetica. He obtained his degree in Pavia (Michael Scot’s “Liber Physonomie”, 1988, rel. F. Alessio) and PhD in Torino (Scepticism according to Hume 1739-1745, 1991-1995, rel. F. Baroncelli e C. Borghero); he studied with D.F. Norton at the McGill University of Montréal (C.N.R. grant 1995 and 1997), with T. Gregory at the Institute of Philosophical Studies in Naples (research grant 1997-1999), with E. Ronchetti at the IULM in Milan (research grant 1999-2003). He works primarily on David Hume, early modern and enlightenment philosophy. He has published several papers on Hume in international collections and translated Hume and Descartes. His last works are “Thinking the thought”. Maraini’s Marianna Ucría and Mr. Hume (Mimesis, 2021) and, with Michela Nacci, When in Rome. National characters between theory and common sense (Marsilio, 2022).
