Theater Of Media Arts, Ugo Nespolo, 2023
On Oct. 23, 2023, the lobby of the IULM 1 building changed its appearance with the inauguration of TAM TAM, the Museo Diffuso della Comunicazione, a project that is transforming the University's campus into an exhibition route open to all citizens.
The first installation is the Theater of Media Arts, a work created byBiella sculptorUgo Nespolo. "A conscious heir of futurism, capable of moving on non-contiguous registers, media and territories (painting, sculpture, graphics, design, cinema, television), committed to interweaving, in the footsteps of a noble twentieth-century tradition, the experience of making with the practice of critical writing, Nespolo has made continuous raids between practices and languages, without ever betraying his unmistakable style, founded on bright and garish colors, on respect for recognizability, on the desire to resolve every figure in a popular and childlike key. But, above all, on the wisdom of constructing amusing visual narratives," these were the words addressed to the author by Prof. Vincenzo Trione on the occasion of the delivery of the Master's Degree honoris causa.
The idea behind the work, as recounted by Nespolo, comes precisely from portable literature: this little theater is an extension of a puppet theater for children. A concept of a puppet theater that touches on the arts that have to do with our University. Master Nespolo's work, Theater of Media Arts or TAM TAM, rhythmic repetition like the sound of a drum, represents 14 icons of communication: from the typewriter, to the snail mail, from newspaper headlines to television and radio and the movie camera, and even a re-imagining of Rodin's The Thinker.
