In March 2018, artist Emilio Isgrò delivered to IULM University his work "Monument to Hell," which depicts Dante Alighieri seated and blindfolded in front of the erased pages of the beginning of the Divine Comedy.

A representation that symbolizes the loss of the ability to read and reinterpret European culture: even the supreme poet is depicted blinded by the lack of education towards the human word. A profound meaning, a warning to act and make communication an instrument of freedom.

The sculptural work thus represents the "hellish" historical moment in which we find ourselves, immersed in global communication that, on the one hand, breaks down barriers, but on the other makes us doubt our existence in an overly frenetic world.

The erasure technique, used by Isgrò since the 1960s, becomes a language and a new alphabet that leaves traces in world art, representing a cultured and civilized art, capable of freeing itself from the computer overload that has permeated our societies.
