Listen Better by Velasco Vitali
On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, IULM opened the exhibition Velasco Vitali. Listen Better, an exhibition pathway born from the dialogue between artist Velasco Vitali and the students of the Master's Degree Course in Art, Valorization and Market, who curated, organized and communicated the exhibition under the supervision of Prof. Vincenzo Trione and Prof. Anna Luigia De Simone.
The central theme of the exhibition is climate change, an issue that today transcends the boundaries of the scientific community to permeate the daily lives of each of us. Vitali explores this theme with a romantic approach, treating the landscape as a source of conflicting emotions: on the one hand, admiration for the grandeur and strength of nature; on the other, the sense of helplessness of human beings in the face of environmental devastation.
Velasco Vitali. Listen Better was divided into three main sections, A Fistful of Dust, I Perceived the Scene, and Predicted the Rest, andWasteland
Each section was inspired by transient places, recalling the ruins of a city, such as those described in T.S. Eliot's poem The Waste Land, where the landscape becomes a symbol of a decaying world.
The exhibition was set up in the Contemporary Exhibition Hall of IULM 6 and in some outdoor spaces of the university campus, creating an immersive path that engages visitors in a deep reflection on our relationship with the environment.
Velasco Vitali. Listen Better provided an opportunity to reflect on the ecological crisis we are experiencing, a theme made even more powerful by the artist's visual and sensitive approach. The exhibition offered a space where art stimulated urgent reflection on our role in the natural world and the challenges of climate change.
