Ka'Kao curated by Sergio Pappalettera with Studio Prodesign
On November 5, 2021 IULM inaugurated KA'KAO, an exhibition to discover the roots of cocoa, a journey backwards between Mexico and Italy, among the elements of the earth, human rituals, and the cycle of life.
Curated by Professor Massimo De Giuseppe, lecturer and filmmaker Giuseppe Carrieri and set up by Sergio Pappalettera with Studio Prodesign, the exhibition revolved around cocoa, the world's most popular food; a symbol that encapsulates the roots of tradition and the challenge for a more sustainable future.
Hosted in the spaces of the Contemporary Exhibition Hall,KA'KAO. The Secret Tree: the journey of cacao between Mexico and Italy was born from an articulated research project of the University's departments but which gradually involved different research centers, institutions, cultural networks, producers and indigenous communities. An experiment with the aim of holding together research and dissemination in an innovative and experimental way and that-after the exhibition in IULM-has also landed in Mexico City at the Museo Nacional de las Culturas.
The project KA'KAO. The secret tree: the journey of cocoa between Mexico and Italy also includes a docu-film shot this summer in Mexico by some IULM students and directed by Giuseppe Carrieri.
