Professor Pietro Mazzola and Salvatore Sciascia recently won the accolade of Babson College in Boston for having written the best article on entrepreneurship in family businesses at the 6th Workshop on Family Firms Management Research held at ESADE - European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management in Barcelona last June.
Conducted on a sample of 200 companies located in the Canton of Ticino, the study, entitled "Entrepreneurial Orientation and Performance in Family-owned Firms: The Role of Family Management", shows how the dynamics of business innovation are strongly influenced by the presence of family managers in the management. In particular, it shows how the difficulties induced by the simultaneous presence of managers from different generations can significantly reduce the effectiveness of innovation-oriented corporate policies.
The research was conducted in collaboration with Francesco Chirico, of Texas A&M University.
