Rector's video message: phase 2 of IULM

University - 20 April 2020

The Rector speaks about the measures that IULM will put in place to ensure the conduct of the academic year in conditions of maximum security. There will also be help for families in difficulty and new courses.

The Rector, Prof. Gianni Canova, tells in a video message the measures that IULM will put in place in the coming months to ensure the academic year in conditions of maximum security, ensuring help to families in difficulty and new educational programs to train professionals who will have the task of responding to the challenges of the post-pandemic world.

In these days in the University are taking place the amission tests for the academic year 2020/21. Many young people have enrolled in these online tests "claiming - as the Rector Gianni Canova says - their willingness to attend university and to plan their future".

This is an important signal, to which IULM University wants to respond promptly by implementing a series of measures to better face the next academic year.
First of all, a reshaping of the didactic calendar will be planned, placing to the first semester all the subjects and theoretical lessons (which will be delivered also in streaming) and moving to the second one all the practical ones, such as workshops. This is because, even if it is possible to resume teaching in attendance from September, the University wants to allow those students who prefer to spend a few more months in total safety, the opportunity to follow the lessons remotely from home, returning to the University from February 2021.

The University is also redesigning the logistics of the classrooms with the aim of optimally defining their capacity, increasing the square meters available to students and investigating new entrance and exit paths in order to guarantee maximum security.

IULM is also working on the subject of the right to study and, in order to deal with the difficulties that families will have to face in the coming months, the University is developing an agreement with an important banking institution to guarantee a loan of honour at extremely advantageous conditions for students. In addition, the Board of Directors has made available a sum of 500,000 euros to support the right to study of those students whose families have been severely affected by the coronavirus, according to the modalities and criteria of allocation that will be communicated.

If it is true that the post covid19 world will certainly be different from the one we were used to, it is equally true that we will need new professionals able to respond to future needs and able to revive the world of communication, media, culture, tourism, fashion, languages. "For this very reason - says the Rector - we are preparing new training projects, new masters, which will have the ambition to answer the new questions that the post-pandemic will pose to our world. IULM continues to have the ambition to be a visionary University that intends to create a serious, responsible and competent ruling class, able to respond to the challenges that the future will bring us".
