IULM and FAO unite for food security and strategic communication
IULM University and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have officially signed a Letter of Intent to strengthen collaboration in key areas such as healthy diets, capacity building, communication for development, and awareness-raising to transform agri-food systems.
The signing took place on Friday, January 31, at FAO headquarters in Rome, with the participation of Prof. Massimo De Giuseppe, representing IULM’s Rector, and FAO Assistant Director-General Mario Lubetkin.
"This agreement represents a fundamental step in consolidating IULM’s role in international research and education on food security and sustainable development. Through innovative communication and awareness-raising strategies, we aim to provide concrete support and contribution to FAO, working together to transform agri-food systems and promote a more equitable and sustainable future," said Prof. Massimo De Giuseppe, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Fashion, and Tourism, Rector’s delegate for the signing.
IULM’s Rector, Prof. Valentina Garavaglia, also highlighted the significance of the collaboration: "We are proud to establish this partnership with FAO, an organization that shares our vision for a more equitable and sustainable future. Our university continues to strengthen its commitment to international cooperation, promoting impactful projects for society."
The FAO, a United Nations agency with a central role in coordinating global efforts to combat hunger, malnutrition, and promote food security, has been one of the key international actors for decades in advancing policies and strategies for sustainable agriculture and food systems. Its mission, which includes equitable food supply and responsible management of natural resources, is essential for ensuring a secure food future for all populations worldwide.
The agreement marks a shared commitment to developing innovative and strategic communication capacities in food security and nutrition, as well as promoting research on key issues for the future of sustainable agri-food systems.
