Agreements and activities between Mexico and Peru

During the summer of 2025, IULM University consolidated its networks and projects in Latin America both on the research front and in the areas of institutional agreements, teaching, and third mission.
In particular, activities took place in two of the main countries on the subcontinent - Mexico and Peru.

Mexico

A mission coordinated by Professors Massimo De Giuseppe and Giovanna Rocca, moved to the capital and several states of the federation.
An international agreement (with internships for students, visiting professors and research projects) was signed between the Rectors of IULM University, Valentina Garavaglia, and the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, Silvia Lorena Amaya Llano. The signing took place during the two-day conference, concert and theater event entitled "Mediolanum-Tenochtitlan," celebrated in the University's Baroque Patio, one of the historic beauties of a UNESCO World Heritage city. The event was a great success with the public both in attendance and online and received great resonance in the press.

IULM University then promoted, together with the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, the Colegio de la Frontera Norte and the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM) the important international conference on Contemporary History "La solidaridad transnacional en América latina durante el siglo XX. Viajes de ida y vuelta," celebrated in Cuernavaca, in the UAEM's Emiliano Zapata auditorium August 20-22.

Other institutional meetings for exchanges and research were held at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the largest university on the continent, the Instituto Nacional de la Radio Mexicana (IMER) and with the audiovisual manager of the Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia (INAH), on which all the national museum and archaeological heritage depends, The short film Yasmira. Una via indigena a la libertad, a production of the IULM University's Center for Culture and Science of Sustainability, has been selected for the Anthropological Film Festival (the most important on the continent) to be held by the as part of the 36th Anthropology and Historia Book Fair at the prestigious Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. The screening of the short film is scheduled for Thursday, September 25 at 4 p.m. (Mexican time) in the Museum's Jaime Torres Bodet Auditorium.

Finally, details have been finalized for the organization of the exhibition of thegreat photographer Graciela Iturbide, The Journey of the Soul, curated by Sergio Raul Arroyo, which will open at IULM University on October 14, 2025.

Peru

The Archaeological Mission resulting from the collaboration between IULM University and MUDEC (Museo delle Culture di Milano) at the Tumshukaiko site in the Sierra Ancash continued its work.
The project, coordinated by IULM professor Carolina Orsini, also enjoys the prestigious recognition of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which continues to co-finance the excavation activities.
Important discoveries were made during the summer 2025 archaeological campaign.
The research is concentrated in the Caraz area, in the heart of the Andean Cordillera, where the team is investigating a complex temple system dating back to the pre-ceramic period (about 3500 B.C.).
Prominent among the most significant discoveries of this campaign is the discovery of the eastern facade of the main temple, an element of great archaeological interest.

Even the Sunday insert of the periodical "Comercio," the nation's premier press organ, wanted to devote a special issue to the results of the excavation campaign.
The collaboration of IULM University researchers with the Department of Biomedical Sciences for Health of the State University of Milan proved to be crucial, allowing them to analyze several burials found near the temple, belonging to different eras but all connected to rituals of dedication of the site.

In addition to the excavation activity, the documentary Di pietra e voce (De piedra y voz), produced by IULM University, written by Professor Massimo De Giuseppe and directed by Francesca Trovato, a former student at the university, was presented - out of competition - at the Ancash Film Festival, the most important South American film festival dedicated to mountains.
The film, which focuses on the oral history of the communities living in the area of the archaeological site, was a great success with audiences and critics.
