MasterX looks back at 9/11, 25 years later
In the new issue of the IULM Master’s Degree in Journalism magazine, students revisit the attack on the Twin Towers and explore what it has left behind in politics, the economy, society and journalism.
“We weren’t there, but…” This generational distance is the starting point of the new issue of MasterX, the magazine of the IULM Master’s Degree in Journalism, published to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Twenty-five years after the attack on New York’s Twin Towers, the students of the Master’s programme revisit one of the events that most profoundly shaped the beginning of the 21st century, asking what has changed and what has remained in politics, the economy and society.
Through articles, in-depth features and first-hand accounts, the issue reconstructs 9/11 and its consequences from different perspectives, bringing together the memories of those who experienced that day with the viewpoint of a generation that came to know it mainly through images, news reports and personal testimonies.
The issue also features an interview with Sujo John, a survivor of the attacks and now an international activist, alongside analyses of the transformations brought about by 9/11 in the media landscape and in international relations.
The project also becomes an opportunity to reflect on journalism and its role in building and passing on the memory of major events, one generation later.
The new issue of MasterX is available online at masterx.iulm.it. Print copies are also available at the University.
