IULM’s measures against discrimination

Università IULM has always been committed to reducing inequalities. Several initiatives and projects are promoted by the university to support all minorities and underrepresented groups throughout their university career, from the admission process to graduation, in order to build an inclusive environment.

Among the main policies and initiatives promoted by the university, IULM counts the Code of Ethics and the Equal Opportunity Committee which set the ground rules for a zero-tolerance approach towards any kind of discrimination. The university also undertakes more direct actions, supporting its students through the counseling and tutoring programmes especially dedicated to minorities and underrepresented groups.

During the 2021/2022 academic year the university implemented various targeted initiatives and consequently measured and tracked the effectiveness of the action taken through quantitative and qualitative indicators, such as the applications and admissions of underrepresented groups.

Low-income students
First of all IULM aims to support low-income students through several measures, such as scholarships and financial aid, the differentiation of the tuitions fees according to the family’s income level (starting from the rate “0” for low-income students, until rate VIII), the catering service at a reduced rate, accommodations in the IULM residence at favorable condition.

A series of initiatives have been promoted in order to integrate refugees in the academic life, such as the scholarships for international protection holders promoted by CRUI, but also educational resources aimed at educating the entire community on the refugee condition like the IULM FLOW 10 - Opportunity in Adversity: Migration and Global Business.

The university is also committed to the creation of a free-barrier campus which has been equipped with infrastructures and services dedicated to students with disabilities, such as accessible entrances, dedicated toilets, lifts, and dedicated parking spaces, and also mobility orientation courses for blind and visually impaired students. Even the spaces inside the buildings have been designed with this purpose: in fact there are dedicated spaces for students in wheelchairs both in the classrooms and in the library and especially equipped accommodation for students with disabilities.
