Alessandro Mengozzi

Degree in Political Science, obtained in 2003 at the Faculty "R. Ruffilli" (Unibo - Forlì), Master in "Identification of territorial systems and negotiated programming" (Fac. Letters and Philosophy, Unibo, Dec 2004) and Doctorate (full scholarship) in "History of Europe: collective identity, citizenship and territory" (Dept. History, Cultures and Civilities, Unibo, Jun 2008, thesis: "Governance of waste in Europe", prof.sa Bonora).
In the field of PhD research I spent two periods abroad with a Marco Polo grant in 2006 at the Science Shop, Innovation and Sustainability Area of the Department of Management and Industrial Engineering of the Danish Technical University in Lyngby (Copenhagen) and in 2007 at the Department of Geography and Regional Planning of the University of Sheffield (UK).
From 2008 to 2010 I worked as a consultant to Councillor Ugo Mazza on the draft regional law on the promotion of participatory practices for the development of public policies, then unanimously approved as law reg. n.3 of 9/2/2010.
From 2009 to 2014, research grant (from 2013, full sponsorship, Emilia-Romagna Region) "Analysis of the new geography of Italian local political communication with particular attention to trends and participatory experiences - prof.sa Bonora".
In 2011, I was one of the founders of the Italian Association for Public Participation (AIP2), affiliated to the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) and a member of the Board of Directors until 2015. Also since 2011, I have been a founding member of the Society of Territorialists and Territorialists (SdT) and the contact person for the Emilia-Romagna regional editorial staff of the magazine Scienze del territorio (Territorial Sciences) edited by the SdT.
Since 2016 I have been working on the Participedia project, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, under the supervision of Prof. Rodolfo Lewanski (Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Bologna).

MAIN AREAS OF SCIENTIFIC INTEREST

My skills are in social geography, applied political philosophy and sociology, with experience in quantitative and qualitative spatial analysis through classical, interactive, ICT and GIS methodologies.
I deal in particular with geography, history and sociology of the environment; environmental conflicts, in particular localisation; impact and sustainability assessments; design, conduct and evaluation of processes and policies of participation; political advisory; political and territorial communication.
