CURRENT POSITION:

Full Professor of English Linguistics and Translation at IULM University - International University of Languages and Media (Milan).
Director of the MA programme in Specialised Translation and Conference Interpreting, where she also coordinates the Conference Interpreting Curriculum.
Member of the Steering Board of the Faculty of Interpreting, Translation and Linguistic and Cultural Studies, IULM University.

RESEARCH LINES:

Her research has mainly focused on two main areas: Translation and Interpreting Studies, and various topics in English linguistics, especially the textual and pragmatic aspects of specialised communication. In Translation Studies her research has been characterized by a descriptive and target-oriented approach. Her continued research effort led to the development of a theoretical model based on the application of the mathematical theory of fuzzy sets to translation, which is her main contribution to Translation Studies. Her research in English linguistics has been mainly characterized by an approach based on pragmatics and discourse analysis, which she has applied in its different versions (Critical Discourse Analysis, genre analysis, multimodal analysis) as a function of the aspects investigated and the ultimate aims of research, combining them with corpus linguistics.
She has published over a hundred and thirty works, focusing in particular on legal, business, scientific and media discourse. Within this context, in recent times, she has focused on multimodality and on the application of genre analysis to the multiplicity of old and new genres in use in the domains explored. She has coordinated various local and national research projects. She is co-editor-in-chief of LCM Journal (Lingue Culture Mediazioni / Languages Cultures Mediation), which she founded, and of the book series “Lingua, traduzioe didattica” (Francoangeli). She sits on the Advisory Board of the Journal of Applied Linguistics and Professional Practice (Equinox), Journal of Multicultural Discourses (Francis & Taylor) e Lingue e Linguaggi.
