CURRENT POSITION:

Guido Formigoni was educated at the Catholic University in Milan (Philosophy degree), where he studied International History and has been working in the Archive for the Social Catholic Movement History. He taught courses also at the Master in International Relations in Bologna University and at the School of Journalism in the Catholic University in Milan. In IULM University, where he has been working since 1993, he is scientific director of the Master in Communication for International Relations.

RESEARCH LINES:

His main research interests have been the political history of the Catholic social and political movement, the history of the Christian democratic party, the role and biography of some politicians, intellectuals and social movement leaders (De Gasperi, Dossetti, Moro, Sturzo, Meda, Fanfani, Lazzati, Pastore, don Mazzolari). By the study of the Catholic political elite’s culture about international problems, he arrived to work on the evolution of the international political system (XIX-XX Century), studying dynamics as empire and globalization. He has published a broad history of Italy in the Cold War internal and international frame.
He was co-editor (2013-2018) and today member of the Direction Board of the quarterly review «Ricerche di storia politica» (Il Mulino), and member of the Direction Board of “Modernism”. Coordinator of the Scientific Committee for the Opera Omnia (Complete Works) of cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, he also takes part in the scientific committees of Civitas-Forum of Archives and Research on Christian Democracy (Rome-Bonn-Leuven), the National Edition of Aldo Moro Complete Works (Roma) and the «Paolo VI» Institute for the history of Catholic Action (Isacem, Roma); he is also member of the Editorial Committee of Il Mulino editore, Bologna. In 2018, he was elected in the Directorate of the Sissco (the Italian scientific society for the study of contemporary history).
