CURRENT POSITION

Full Professor of Contemporary History at the Department of Humanities of Iulm University. Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Fashion and Tourism. Director of the research center Culture and Science of Sustainability.

LINES OF RESEARCH

At the center of his studies are the theme of international history, social, religious and peace movements, between political and cultural dimensions and impact on public opinion. In particular, he has dedicated himself to two main lines of research. The first refers to the relationships between institutions, society and religion between America and Europe, with particular attention to the case of Mexico and Central America. The second concerns political and religious actors, groups and associations linked to the peace movement, Third Worldism, international cooperation and the protection of human rights. In this context he has focused in particular on the Cold War period and on the intertwining of the bipolar and dynamic logics of decolonization and Third Worldism, as well as on the construction of transnational networks and the impact of extra-European events on Italian society. Over the years he has collaborated on numerous research projects, including Prin, participating, designing and coordinating international conferences and seminars (in Italy, Europe and the Americas). He collaborates with several scientific journals. He is currently a member of the editorial staff of “Modernism” and “Glocalism. Journal of Culture, Politics and Innovation”. He is part of the scientific committee of “Revista de historia social y de las mentalidades”, "Contemporanea. Rivista dell'800 e 900" and "Mondo contemporaneo" and directs the "Americhe" series of the publisher il Mulino di Bologna. In 2008 one of his volumes was awarded the Desiderio Pirovano prize for historical research by the Luigi Sturzo Institute in Rome. In 2019 he was appointed international member, for Italy, of the Academia Mexicana de la Historia, corresponding to the Academia Real de España.
