Book Therapy: reading as a tool for prevention and treatment

Head: Carmelo Dambone

Year 2019

The aim of the project is twofold: on the one hand, it aims to map the approach to reading, specifically the narrative genre, as a tool for prevention and promotion of psychophysical well-being and, on the other hand, to systematize the use of the book, detailed by age group and gender difference, when used as a support tool in psychotherapy in various psychosocial contexts.
Specifically, the project aims to:

  1. enhance research in the field of book therapy, a practice with therapeutic value capable of promoting an improvement in the psychological functioning of the user;
  2. advance the literary tool as a method of prevention from experiences of mental suffering and/or victimisation linked to psycho-social phenomena (school drop-out, bullying, abuse, paedophilia, etc.);
  3. gather and examine points of view, such as those who use the literary tool, and those of the professionals who provide it;
  4. promote dialectics between the different disciplinary fields.
