Prospective migrants: policies, representations, practices

Studies on migration seeking to better understand the causes of migration mobility take a perspective that frequently favours an understanding of the phenomenon through the identification of push and pull factors. According to this approach, migrants appear to be agency-less and migratory movements the result of structural dynamics or, at most, as an act of individual or collective change and transformation. The project aims to investigate the problems related to migration experience and post-migration from West African countries through the analysis of policies developed at national and European level.
The project aims a.) to identify and analyze, through case studies, the policies developed at national and European level that can produce forms of "long-distance" membership and economic, social and political mobilization oriented to the development of the country of origin and the context of arrival. Migrants within this scope are actively involved as active actors in development processes and politically oriented in favour of "bottom-up" cooperation; b) to identify and analyze the forms of the migrant agency that are expressed, in the territories of arrival, in mechanisms of symbolic and material construction of the conditions of possibility of territorial intervention. It is understood that the public and subjective acquisition of the "political sense", its cultural elaboration, its transformation into an agency, feeds the circuits of communication in their broadest sense, given the different historical-territorial contexts; c) to identify, analyse and propose measures for would-be migrants in the form of local development policies, micro-entrepreneurship, training.
